Tarlac placed under state of calamity due to habagat damages

The Tarlac Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP) has declared a state of calamity in the province due to the widespread effects and damage from the heavy rains brought by the southwest monsoon (habagat).

The SP passed the resolution declaring the state of calamity during its special session on Sunday, August 30, at the Session Hall, Sangguniang Panlalawigan Building.

“The adverse weather conditions have significantly disrupted transportation, access to essential services, agricultural operations, and other economic undertakings, while further exposing vulnerable communities and critical infrastructure to continued risks and potential additional damage and disruption,” the Resolution read.

The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC) recommended declaring a state of calamity in Tarlac.

Meanwhile, Governor Christian Yap said the move would pave the way for the immediate release of funds for relief operations, rehabilitation of infrastructure projects, and assistance to affected families.

“Alam natin ang bigat ng dinaranas ng ating mga kababayan—mula sa nasirang mga pananim at kabuhayan, hanggang sa pagkapinsala ng mahahalagang daanan tulad ng Ninoy Aquino Bridge at Agana Bridge,” the governor said.

“Sa panahong ito ng pagsubok, walang Tarlaqueñong maiiwan. Manatili po tayong ligtas, alerto, at magkatuwang sa pagbangon,” he added.
